Every year the Health Occupations Students of America club (HOSA) participates in a philanthropy act with The Kimberly Home. The Kimberly Home is a non-profit pregnancy resource center that provides support for single mothers of unplanned or troubling pregnancies. This support includes pregnancy testing, ultrasound, counseling and mentoring, daycare, parenting classes, temporary housing, adoption services, referrals to community resources and material assistance.
To reach out and help Santa, HOSA members donate piles beyond piles of gifts for the children of these mothers. Each member of HOSA selects an ornament, which doubles as a tag, with the age and gender of a child, and toy or clothes written on it. From this the students go out and buy an appropriate gift, wrap it, and place it under their medical teacher’s tree.
Yesterday, Dec 15, all presents were gathered and brought to Ms. Miller’s room, where they were presented to The Kimberly Home representatives. HOSA also hosted a small holiday party with food and music for all to enjoy.
After many thanks from the representatives and a small speech, HOSA members helped load up The Kimberly Home truck and sent them off with warm holiday wishes. Every year HOSA hopes to out-do themselves from the year prior. So, remember to look out next year for the ornaments; all are welcome to help!
