Clubs are not only a great way to get involved with the school and meet people, but are a great opportunity to impress colleges. Organization is an important part of high school and is a very big factor in maintaining good grades. This is the foundation of the AVID program, to help kids stay organized and also to prepare kids for college.

AVID stands for Advancement via Individual Determination, and that’s exactly what is enforced with the program. Making sure that kids have all that they need to graduate while maintaining the grades and also being organized throughout that. This sounds like a lot of work, but with AVID offering all of the resources for that, the work is minimized and it offers help to further minimize it.

Mrs. Elkins is in charge of the AVID club. Kids that have Elkins like her and the classes they have with her, along with AVID 1, she teaches world religion. All her kids get along with her and she can always keep kids on track with their work.

“Elkins is a great teacher and no matter what we’re doing she is always able to help with our problems,” Said Sammy Wilson.

The AVID club meets on the second Wednesday of every month from 1:45 to 2:45. The club is an extra opportunity for kids to get help organizing and also a time to get help with any school work that they have.

“The AVID club is a great opportunity for extra help and getting prepared for college. It is a good chance for kids to ask what questions they have and get help with what they’re struggling on,” Elkins said.

Colleges look for clubs when receiving an application. Having a club that shows clubs on college applications while easing the workload is a great opportunity to impress colleges.

AVID is to help kids, and that’s what Elkins strives to teach. The club offers many things, including help with homework, organization, and help studying. This is a club that impress colleges, also maintain grades and help with work.

AVID club helps to expand horizons for and information of different colleges. Part of the reason that AVID is a great club is that it studies different colleges and it helps to find many different careers that might be interesting. Also, the AVID club gives a lot of information about many different colleges.

No matter the reason, AVID club is a great opportunity for kids to expand their horizons, get help, and prepare for college. Everyone who is involved with AVID, whether it’s the class or the club, can see the improvement of their grades and the better understanding of materials.
