2017+HOSA+review

Students from the Center for Wellness and Medical Professions (CWMP) program at Palm Harbor University High School made their way to Hillsborough Community College on January 27th. The club, Health Occupations for Students of America (HOSA), had regional competitions to show who has their medical knowledge.

HOSA is a club that informs students about possibilities and careers in the medical field. They also have competitions that prepare students for real life, with categories such as Nursing Assisting, CERT, and Physical Therapy.

HOSA’s mission is “to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality healthcare by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science education students, therefore, helping the student meet the needs of the healthcare community.”

“I have been in HOSA for all four years,” Devin Sosa, a Palm Harbor senior, said. “I made new friends and connections through it all. I’ve learned plenty of new things too while preparing for my competitions.”

The club also gives students the chance to compete at state and national levels. Many competitors have gone to state competitions in Orlando and have excelled.

PHU senior, Isabel Ionata, said. “I have been in HOSA for two years, and have gone to states both of those years. I went for Public Service announcements last year, and am going for MRC Partnership this year.”

HOSA has been also looks good on college resumes as well. Especially for those who have great medicine and nursing programs, like University of Central Florida, and University of South Florida.

Overall, the HOSA club has been proven to be very beneficial to students and their futures. If you are interested in joining next year or have any questions, you can ask Ms. Miller in room 6-101.
