Big Miracle is a movie based on a true story. In the movie, aspiring TV reporter Adam Carlson (played by John Krasinski), while filming his last story, discovers three whales trapped in a patch of water. The story goes viral; it seems as if everyone in Northern America knows about the whales named Fred, Wilma, and Bam-Bam and of their trouble. Adam’s environmentalist ex-girlfriend Rachel Kramer (Drew Barrymore) joins the whale rescue. Obstacles are met along the way and eventually Big Oil, the Soviet Union, Greenpeace, and an Inuit tribe all join together to save the whales.
The movie is family friendly, has a good message in the end, and has some good acting. John Krasinski played Adam tremendously well; Drew Barrymore and Kristen Bell annoyed me a little bit as their characters were done too over the top. Their characters were unbelievable; I sometimes wished they would be cut from the movie all together.
Big Miracle is probably only the few based on a true story movies that doesn’t over-glorify the events; there are no cheesy puns thrown at me, and therefore, the movie seems more life-like. The movie was not horrifically bad nor was it absolutely amazing. Nonetheless, it is something to watch if you have nothing else to do with your day.
I give Big Miracle 3 out of 5 stars.
