Interstellar Talk

– Interstellar is the latest film by acclaimed director Christopher Nolan. After doing such works as The Dark Knight and Inception, Nolan has found a new genre to excel at with this great sci-fi thriller.

Interstellar is the story about a former astronaut named Cooper (played by Matthew McConaughey) who is sent to space to explore the greater depths of the galaxy, in search of a home for the human race.

Humanity has little time left on Earth, as crops can no longer grow due to a disease in the plants. This disease reduces the oxygen in the air, and threatens to eventually suffocate everyone on the planet. Cooper tearfully leaves his daughter and son on Earth, and joins a group of astronauts put together by NASA, in hopes to find a planet capable of sustaining human life.

Let’s start off by saying this movie is NOT for everyone. Some people will love it, and some people will hate it, with little in between. Viewers might love Interstellar for its spectacular visual effects, thrilling action sequences, and ambitiousness to be one of the greatest space dramas ever told. Meanwhile, viewers might hate Interstellar for its exposition-based dialogue, dull characters, and somewhat predictable plot.

Many may even hate it just because Christopher Nolan’s name is attached to it at all, but that is a totally different conversation.

Movies have been made for one reason: to make the viewer feel emotion. Whether it be anger, excitement, happiness, or fear, a film is meant to evoke emotion, and Interstellar understands and tackles that concept wonderfully.

The Verdict: Despite anyone’s opinion, nobody can deny that Christopher Nolan has created somewhat of a modern masterpiece. A film that will be discussed, debated, and remembered for many years to come regardless of what people think of it. Interstellar is NOT a bad movie. Is Interstellar the greatest movie of all time? Not a chance. But it’s still one of most beautiful, mesmerizing, and thought provoking films that today’s moviegoers will ever experience. So just relax, and try to take it all in when watching the greatness of Interstellar.
