InstaSnap?

In last month’s Instagram update, something seems to be blatantly suspicious.

It takes a lot of knowledge to program an original and creative social media app, especially with how many there are.

In early August, Instagram updated its app to include more features. One thing different about this update was that Instagram stories was introduced. This new feature is stirring up a fuss with many social media users as well as the press.

There are many obvious signs that Instagram has plagiarized part of its new feature from Snapchat.

One of the things that Instagram may have taken from Snapchat is the slide effect, in which a user slides their finger across the screen in order to open up the camera. This method has been used on Snapchat since 2013.

Another element that is similar to Snapchat is the editing a user is able to do to the their picture/video, such as writing on the photo, adding filters, or even adding text to their story.

The only thing that really seems original to Instagram and not Snapchat is the retro filter and the direct send to everybody. Other than that, everything else seems to have been taken from the Snapchat database.

The media has not been informed about any plans of Snapchat to sue Instagram, however many would be surprised if Instagram isn’t taken to court over the plagiarism.

It is very surprising that Instagram hasn’t been sued by Snapchat yet. Plus, Instagram should know better than to plagiarize another social media app.
