Whether she is spiking or setting the ball in the air, Volleyball is the sport Jessa Mielke plays and loves the best.

14 year old Jessa Mielke represents her passion for volleyball playing on the JV team at PHU. With hopes of joining varsity and high expectations showing her love of the sport. She would do anything to play for her team.

Jessa enjoys playing the game as she improves her skills each time she hits the ball. She used “to be a quieter and shy person before volleyball, but now is confident and active in all her games,” Mielke said.

Before games she would usually “jump around,” to warm up and “prepare mentally” to get pumped up for her next game, bursting with wild energy, she said. Being and playing on the court made her “really excited,” every time she made a point knowing she was able to do that.

She has achieved many accomplishments for volleyball especially winning both club and school games.

Being on the team “forms a close relationship with your teammates as they soon become your best friends,” she says. Her team always has each other’s backs and help them in the game or otherwise just plain teamwork altogether.

Jessa and her team go out and beyond in every game and give it all their energy and passion. After the game, they come together to congratulate each other give them positive feedback, helping the team get better.

But in addition to all the support from teammates her parents get into the action as well. Her mom and dad always come to watch practice and games and guides her through everything.

Especially if the girls want to plan together, Jessa is always around hanging out with them as all the parents of the players “plan activities to do together as a team,” Mrs. Mielke said.

Even being in the IB program she is able to balance everything and get good grades in all her academics, which her parents assist with her schedule all the time.

In the stands, Jessa would hear the cheers and yells from her parents and relatives to support her each step along the way.

In the end, it is clear that this the sport for Jessa despite her incredible height advantages. She’s passionate for it, she loves it, clears her mind, and gives her a sense of leisure and escape.

Jessa loves the court and hopes to stay with it until the end and hopefully lands on a college team in the future.
