Transgender Bathroom

Transgender+Bathroom

If you’re not to sure whats is happening, in North Carolina they passed a bill  saying whatever sex your birth certificate assigns you is the bathroom you must use. Basically, if you’re assigned male you should use the men’s bathrooms and if it says female you should use the women’s restroom. The controversy is that if you are a transgender person you would still have to use whatever bathroom your birth certificate dictates.

There have been different proposals regarding dealing with the situation. Some of the ideas that have been proposed is that there should be a gender neutral bathroom, or that transgender people should just go into whichever bathroom they feel comfortable with.

The argument against transgender people being able to use the restroom with the gender in which they identify is that it will make it easier for sex offenders assault people. The counter argument is that if the criminal is going to commit a crime, they’re going to do it either way, regardless of whether or not they can legally enter a restroom of the opposite sex.

The American Family Association is in opposition to transgender people deciding which restroom they feel most comfortable using. They believe that it encourages sexual predators and puts women and young girls in danger because, “a man can simply say he ‘feels like a woman today’ and enter the women’s restroom.”

Even Donald Trump said that transgender people should be allowed to use whichever bathroom they want.

The outcome of this controversy will truly be up to the opinions of the parties involved. Both parties have legitimate concerns. There are a lot of factors that go into this controversial topic and debate on it will most likely not end soon.
