United states, unlike any countries have “national holidays” and many states have chosen to honor some of their federal holidays, In reality all 50 states only recognizes eight federal holidays like: ( New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day,and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday). The Columbus Day holiday became a legal federal holiday in much a different manner.

I think Columbus Day should be recognized often because Christopher Columbus was an Explorer that he also completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean and he is the first one to discover the American Continent on October 12, 1492.

President Benjamin Harrison had issued a Columbus Day proclamation in 1892 on the 400th anniversary of the Columbus voyage also. President Franklin Roosevelt and Congress also made proclamations about Columbus Day. Among the reasons cited for the Columbus Day federal holiday was that it was being observed in 40 states at the time.

Since then, Columbus they has its share of own controversy , because of a re-evaluation of Columbus and falling support from states who don’t want to close up business to mark the federal holiday. People comments about columbus is not really polite because they have said Columbus was disapproved prevailing belief that the world is flat.

Positive:

Because Columbus was the first European that first encounters the Native Americans and discovered the American Continent.

Negative:

Because Columbus disagree that the earth is flat.

He didn’t find this country and he was actually about 700 years too late and if you really think about it and do some fact checking this country was found around 2000 BC and the copper in Michigan was being mined out for weapons and other stuff. All this holiday is a sham and another reason for our politicians to not have to work.
