Player of the Week- Alivia Gonzalez

The regional finals are in the Canes sights.The girls varsity soccer team defeated Wharton in their last game, to advance to the regional finals. Alivia Gonzalez has been a big part of the team this season, and she doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

“It was a very close game, the whole game,” Gonzalez said, reflecting on the girls regional semifinal against Wharton. The Canes won 2-0, Gonzalez scored on a cross from Allyssa Woodring.

“It’s a good experience, I didn’t expect it to go this far my freshman year” Gonzalez said when she was asked about being a freshman on a team so close to the top. “Once I realized that this team has a lot of potential, that may be where I realized that we were pretty good and we’re going to go pretty far,” Gonzalez said looking back at her team’s journey so far.

The Lady Canes will take on Newsome tonight. “It’s going to be a hard game, but i hope we can pull something through, Newsome’s been a very good team in the past years, but i think we can do it,” Gonzalez said about the game against Newsome.

She’s always been a soccer player, ever since she was four years old, She grew up here in Palm Harbor, and now she looks to bring a regional title back to the U.
