The wrestling team has had a very exciting past two weeks, as many accomplishments have been made, records broken, and personal bests made.
These fantastic two weeks started at the PCAC’s in Boca Ciega high school. Palm Harbor took the championship for the first time in school history.
“It has been hard. But I’m proud of the boys; they work really hard,” coach Brad Sakevich said.
Aaron Hartman won his match that capped off his perfect season of 30 wins-0 losses and winning his second county title. Jared Prince (113) and his twin brother Connor Prince (106) won first place in their weight classes. Ryan Myers (138) won first place in his weight class as well, also winning the most outstanding player for the county award.
“I did not even see it coming. I have worked really hard,” Ryan Myers said.
The past week was a Palm Harbor University High school dual meet, that was renamed the Logan Kushner duals after the death of a former teammate. Also in his honor, the wrestling boys wore crazy socks for their senior night.
“It was hilarious all the boys had girly socks, Disney socks, rainbow socks, everything. We really stood out; Logan would’ve laughed,” Myers said.
Also at senior night, Sakevich and fellow coach Matt LePain announced that there will now be a Logan Kushner scholarship given to a child each year that excels in football and wrestling; the two sports Kushner did in high school.
“Hearing that they’re having a scholarship after Logan really made the night that much better!”Myers said.
