Tennis Club

The Tennis club has been serving it up this season. The tennis club has a boys and a girls team, and they both vary in skill level. From beginners who just picked up a racket, to advanced players who have been playing for ten or more years, the tennis team offers it all.

The coach is Irene Tharin, and she has been coaching for fourteen years at PHU, and for thirty-two years in total.

The team had a good season, with ten seniors on the team. The star player on the boys team is Greg Perenich, and he has been playing tennis since he was nine. “I try to compete in a couple tournaments every month,” Perenich said.

The number one player on the girls team is Carina Gobes. She has been playing for ten years.

The team meets for practice Monday thru Thursday, and plays fourteen regular season matches. There are fifty-two players on the team, and ten on the upper team.

The season starts in the first week in January and ends the second week in April.

“It’s my favorite time of the year,” said Perenich.
