Champs again?

Palm Harbor University girls’ basketball team heads to the PCAC game for the second year in a row.

On January 23, 2015, Palm Harbor University Girls basketball team will be going up against St.Petersburg High School for the PCAC title.

“I didn’t know the girls basketball team was as good as they are. They don’t seem to get a lot of recognition from the school” said Healee Hason.

With a 20-3 record and ranked number 45 in the state, PHU’s girls basketball team is on their way to ending another great season. With the help of head coach Darian Dublin and a well put together team, they will hopefully win the PCAC for the second consecutive year and head to the State Championship game.

“I enjoy being on the Jv team, being able to play under a great Varsity team has been a learning experience. I’ve learned a lot from Char who’s a senior on the team, and I can’t wait to be a part of varsity next year,” said Kari Whiting.

Although Palm Harbor’s girls’ basketball is compiled of great players, there is one player that stands out and is a major reason they are heading to the PCAC, varsity captain, Chardonay Aldrich (senior).

The 5’7 guard/forward averages about eighteen points per game. During the games against Tarpon and Countryside Char scored thirty points, almost half of the final score. She also was awarded with MVP during the tournament against Indian Rocks Christian.

Last year was the first year girls basketball at PHU ever received a banner to hang in the gym. And this year, with hard work and dedication they plan on bringing home the title for the second time.
