Family out on the field

With the first game of the season approaching, the girls on the PHUHS softball team have been working especially hard. The team’s first game was February 8. For the freshmen, this must be very exciting, but for the seniors, this might be a little upsetting because it is their last season as a Hurricane softball player.

These girls have been working really hard from the moment conditioning started in the beginning of September to this very moment in the beginning of February. The team has practice multiple days every week. Since these girls spend so much time together, it is no surprise that they have created a family out on the field. Once they graduate, there is no doubt that they will stay in touch.

Based on how much effort these girls put into playing this sport, they will surely have a lot of victories. The game was what they have been preparing for months in advance.

Last year, they played a game called 21 where they go around and have to get 21 outs without making a mistake or a bad throw. If they do make a mistake, they go back to zero unless they’ve already gotten to eleven. A junior named Bianca Haire taught this to a little league senior team last year.

A lot of hard work goes into getting ready for the season. They are at the field almost everyday, whether it is a team practice or if it is a practice by themselves. Every girl on that team puts in 110%. This sport is not easy. It has to be practiced over and over again.

“You have to be committed and you have to love softball,” Kimmy Singer said.

Once a little girl plays, most fall in love with the game and never go back.
