The near-finished product of Building 19, cluttered with dirt piles and some last debris of construction.

Within the last few days of school, “Building 19” will be completed and an official addition to Palm Harbor University High.

Yes, it’s done – after a year full of construction, Driver’s Ed range relocation, and anticipation, the new building is almost here. Is it odd to have Building 19 be named Building 19, even though we only have 12 buildings? Maybe. Is it going to make getting to classes that were once in the portables easier? Definately.

The portables have already begun being taken away by semi-trucks; the 18 year old “portable city” is being swept away to make room for the new Driver’s Ed range for next year that is scheduled to be completed over the summer.

Next year’s freshman will never have to experience being soaked to the bone by the rain trying to get to their class in the portables, nor will any future driver’s ed students have to take the long trek out to the baseball field just to practice driving on the uneven dirt lot.

Teachers will also be freed from their old shabby portables and move into brand new rooms with new equipment – no more smartboards being thrown off their calibration by someone simply walking up the ramp to get into class, and no more creaky floor boards and chipped ceilings, or whatever range of ailments have been plaguing these teachers’ classrooms for the last decade.
Seniors will leave just in time to see this new building completed, and once summer is over the new school year will usher in these new additions and efficiency.
