Numerous high school students take AP classes, such as environmental science, math classes, and many more. Just recently at PHU, there is a new course that will prepare a student for college.

At an assembly in the PHU auditorium, the new program, AP Capstone, was announced. The class will teach upcoming college students certain skills they would use in college. These techniques range from argumentation to public speaking.

Not only do students learn these skills, but they will also be graded on what they want to write. Students are able to use their own interests in their work, which makes more students interested in the new program.

The course is also a diploma program, which signifies that a student completed the requirements in high school to earn an advanced diploma. The AP Capstone Diploma Program will consist of four AP courses and exams, these can be taken any time throughout high school.

This isn’t the only choice, a student can also take the AP Seminar and AP Research courses.

The first year is AP Seminar, which consists of classes such as Team Project and Presentation, Individual Research-Based Essay and Presentation, and EOC’s. The second year is with AP Research, which only has two classes, Academic Paper, and Presentation/Oral Defense. After these classes are taken and passed, the student will earn the AP Seminar and AP Research Certificate.

These classes bring many opportunities into a student’s school life. Many challenges will be faced, but the classes will give a student a new challenge that can help them in the future.
