So, your pretty good at convincing your friends of your opinions and you want to channel this talent. Joining the Debate team seems to be the obvious choice. How do I do this? Question: When does the club meet?
Stephen Ross: Every Wednesday after school.
Question: Where does the club meet?
Ross: Room 4-221.
Q: What do you debate?
Ross: It depends on the type of debate your talking about. There are three we specialize in: Lincoln/Douglas, Mock Congress, and Policy.
Q: What is a Lincoln/Douglas debate?
Ross: Modeled after the style made famous by Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas during the presidential election of 1858, these debates are one on one with usually philosophical topics.
Q: What is a Mock Congress debate?
Ross: A Mock Congress is a group debate in which one group proposes a fake bill and both groups must argue over its merits.
Q: What is a Policy debate?
Ross: A Policy debate is another group debate in which one group proposes a plan, like American troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, and the other group must argue its validity and how realistic it is.
Q: Who would you recommend the debate team to?
Ross: Anyone interested in public speaking or arguing with people.
