In past years PHUHS has run a food drive for the less fortunate around the Thanksgiving season. As an incentive to get the most canned foods donated as possible, PHUHS Interact club set up a competition amongst the classes for the most cans collected.
“This is a great way to get people to donate. I’m sure people would still donate but I think it did make more people donate. Which is great!” said Dillion Freeman
The first competition was amongst each program, University, Medical, and IB. Whichever program donated the most cans won. Then inside the wining program the teacher who was able to collect the most cans from his/her students won. The University program won the food drive with 149 cans. AP Psychology teacher Mrs. Kluis won for having collected the most cans in the university program.
“I just feel happy to give back to the community,” said Mrs. Kluis.
For the promised incentive Mrs. Kluis will receive a donation to her program in which she teaches.
“The University Booster Club will receive a $100 donation towards supporting our school,” said Kluis
Regardless of the competition all of the donations received were greatly appreciated by the community. The donation made a difference in many families this Thanksgiving.
“Hopefully our donation will help local families during this season of giving,” said Mrs. Kluis.
