Last Thursday evening at 7 o’ clock, the school’s auditorium was resonating with the tunes of classic holiday melodies. The school’s band, choir and a cappella group all performed the holiday music they’ve been preparing, enchanting the audience with their talents.
The band performed elaborate renditions of classics of the season, such as How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The choir, dispersed evenly throughout the rows in the audience, serenaded a delighted crowd with upbeat favorites, such as Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bell Rock and Silver Bells. The a cappella group, too, graced the audience by doing what they do best–making good songs sound even better with the use of nothing other than their voices, such as they did in Carol of the Bells. The a cappella group could also be found, immediately after the concert’s end, performing this song a second time for a smaller, attentive crowd just outside the theater, in the most authentic December weather one could hope to ask of from the state of Florida.
The concert was a great way for the school to show of its musical talents. A French teacher, Paula Hern, in her final year teaching at PHUHS, attended a concert at the school last week. Afterwards, she lamented that she’d neglected to attend more of the events during her teaching career.
“Sitting at the concert, I had a huge regret that I did not attend more of these events in previous years,” she said. “I was always so busy…but I will attend more often upon retirement. What talented, lovely students we have at PHUHS!”
