According to the countdown clock on the Oscar homepage (http://oscar.go.com/nominations) It is approximately one week until the 83rdAcademy Awards show. There is one more week until the red carpet is rolled out, there is one more week until the stars give their emotional speeches. There is one more week unitl you can see your favorite (or least favorite) movie stars win Oscars.
It starts with the Red Carpet, where stars waltz across the famous carpet, waving and being interviewed by the press. This starts around 6:30pm; however the Academy Awards will start at 8pm on the ABC channel, February 27. And as much as it is fun waiting for the Awards, the Oscar homepage released the nominations so viewers can vote their favorite movie or actor while they wait. For the Best Picture, nominees are Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids are all Right, The King’s Speech, 127 Hours, The Social Network, Toy Story 3, True Grit, and Winter’s Bone.
“I’d pick between Black Swan and Inception,” said junior Zoe Papas. “I thought Inception was good because the plot was awesome.”
For Emma Thomas, co-producer of Inception, this will be the first time being nominated for an Academy Award while for Christopher Nolan, co-producer, this will be his third time being nominated. Inception has also been nominated for Original Screenplay as well. For the producers of Black Swan, Mike Medavoy, Brian Oliver and Scott Franklin, this is the first time they’ve ever been nominated.
On Rotten Tomatoes, a site that rates and reviews movies, the Black Swan had scored an 88 out of 100. According to the Rotten Tomatoes site, the movie was intense, passionate and wildly melodramatic, taking on a bold direction. Inception scored an 86 while Social Network scored 97 for being riveting, impeccably scripted and beautifully directed. The King’s Speech, The Kids are all Right and True Grit received a 95, 127 Hours and Winter’s Bone received a 94, The Fighter received 90 and Toy Story 3 received a 99.
“I loved Toy Story 3,” junior Jennifer Rives said. “It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it incorporated everything in it.”
