This year in gaming should prove to be one of the best. I would have called last year the year of the sequels but I have heard many people give that title to 2011. I forecast that this year will also have many blockbusters and must haves. I hope you started saving because otherwise these releases will break the bank.
First there is Bulletstorm, a loud mouthed, immature, and bloody first person shooter all about “killing with skill.” Though this game is obnoxious I wouldn’t call that a problem, not in this case. It has such an inviting immaturity about it, one that suggests you throw off the shackles of higher thought and surrender to your more violent and boisterous temptations. That may sound like a horrible thing in real life, but in the context of this game it is a roaring good time. I encourage you to buy this one, or at least check out the demo which is downloadable on Xbox Live and Playstation Network. Bulletstorm will be released on February 22, and has received an M rating from the ESRB.
Next up is Homefront, another first person shooter about the occupation of America by North Korean forces in the near future. Homefront sports what looks to be a gripping plot and a fantastic single player campaign. Aside from the single player experience, the multiplayer should also be a good time, sporting gameplay that looks to be a mix between the Battlefield franchise and the Call of Duty series. Homefront will hit store shelves March 8 and hasn’t received a rating yet.
Also, on March 8 Dragon Age 2 will be arriving at your local game store. The sequel to Dragon Age: Origins follows the story of Hawke, a survivor of a demonic invasion known as a Blight. Because this game is developed by Bioware, you know that it will be heavily story and character driven. And because of this, there won’t be a multiplayer, which would be silly anyway. Dragon Age 2 has received an M from the ESRB.
After that comes Crysis 2, yet another first person shooter, but this one is also very good. Crysis 1 was known for its insanely high fidelity graphics. The graphics were so high that almost no pc would run it. However, that has changed because Crysis 2 was made for consoles and pc’s alike. Also, the plot and gameplay aren’t completely horrible this time around. The story is based around a near future alien invasion of a New York defended by nano-suit equipped super soldiers. Aside from what should be a stellar single player campaign, the multiplayer is quite fun. You should give it a try; the multiplayer demo is also available on Xbox Live and Playstaion Network. Crysis 2 is releasing on March 22, and has received an M rating.
That’s all the big ones for the spring season. Stay tuned for reviews and another update come April.
