The 83rd annual Academy Awards actually did not disappoint me. The red carpet was full of lace, emeralds, light colors, vivid red, and many bold dresses that indeed made a statement that evening. Some of the stars looked like they just jumped out of bed and didn’t put any effort into their look.
The best dressed by far was Jennifer Hudson by far. Her tangerine Atelier Versace gown really made her skin tone glow. Hudson looks extremely good with all the weight she’s lost on Weight Watchers. That Versace gown was indeed made for her body type. At the 2010 Oscars last year Versace made me extremely impressed, and this year this designer in general has won me over.
The Oscars were filled with emerald jewelry even to dresses that didn’t have green accents to them. Reese Witherspoon who came out in a Giorgio Armani Privé strapless dress was very elegant, but yet simple. She accessorized with green emerald Neil Lane Jewelry. I really enjoyed her dress and think it complimented her curves very well but the high pony tail was unnecessary.
I died when I saw Anne Hathaway’s red carpet premiere. I cannot get over how much I loved the red dress she was wearing; it complimented her personality and body very well. By her side was the designer of her gown, the one and only, Valentino. Hathaway’s dress was from the Valentino “Archives.” She made Oscar history that evening by being the first to wear a dress from his past collections.
Actress Marisa Tomei’s gown was a vintage nightmare coming true. Her dress was a 1950 navy blue Charles James Dress. As much as I love vintage dresses, Tomei’s dress should’ve stayed in the fifties and never should have came to the 21st century. This dress was too tight on her, and it made her look she was about to bust out of the dress every time she moved. It was not even close to Oscar “worthy”. It was more of a vintage prom disaster that someone’s mother would throw together for prom last minute.
Overall I was pleased with most of the outfits at the Oscars and I really enjoyed the host’s costume changes. I was in awe with some of the fashion that the stars came out in. The 2011 Academy Awards were definitely a magical evening.
