It’s that time of year, juniors and seniors! Prom’s right around the corner-April 29th for those who don’t know-so it’s time to starting planning your perfect prom night!
For girls, prom’s an opportunity to get all dolled up and wear lavish dresses. But before you go out and buy that gorgeous gown, keep other things in mind.
1. Make a budget
First things first; you need to know how much money you have to get your prom look together. Then divide it into the necessary expenses, such as a ticket (if you’re going stag or need to buy your own), dress, beauty preparation, and maybe even the costs of a pre-prom dinner.
2. Getting healthy
To get in your best prom shape, make an effort to eat healthy and do some exercises before the big night. Also, make sure those pearly white are…well, white. You’re going to be smiling a lot that night, so make sure your smile is bright!
3. The dress
Here’s the big part. Shop in advance to avoid hitting the stores after everyone else. Don’t just go to your average department store, but search the racks at some local boutique, and maybe even online. Just make sure you order it soon enough!
4. Appointments
Mani/pedi’s, hair appointments, maybe even tanning. Make your appointments ahead of time so you’re not running from salon to salon on prom day. Start collecting ideas to present to the salon worker and make sure it’s in your budget! One little tip of advice though? Don’t overdo it. No need for super long, fake nails, outrageous hair, and/or orange skin. It’s just prom, save all of that for the Jersey shore.
5. Plans, plans, plans!
Do you want to attend prom solo? I didn’t think so. Make transportation arrangements with friends or your date to and from prom. Be safe with your transportation though! Prom night can be a dangerous night to be on the roads, so make sure you’re riding with a trusted driver. Something else to plan is any pre-prom activities, such as dinner and of course, the classic pictures. Mom, dad, grandparents, and maybe even those relatives you didn’t know existed, will be on hand to take some snapshots.
Not to worry guys, you’re not left out! People often believe the misconception that prom is only a big deal to the girls, but that’s not true. Prom can be a big night for guys too!
1. Just like the girls, you have to look your best
I’m not saying go get your nails done or hitting up a tanning salon, but put some effort into your look. Maybe get your hair cut, shave a little, and practice that smile. Remember, people are going to be looking forward to seeing some prom pictures, so make sure your smile looks the best it can be.
2. The tux
you don’t have to go out and buy an expensive tux for prom, and chances are you won’t want to. There are plenty of tuxedo rental locations in the area, so go out and look for that special tux. Just please do us girls a favor and don’t go for a cheesy powder blue tuxedo. We won’t know what to say and honestly, we might laugh at you.
3. Got a date?
Not too many guys attend school dances with a group of friends, unlike girls. While there’s nothing wrong with that, guys typically ask out girls for the big night. Muster up some confidence and ask out your dream date!
4. Getting floral
It’s pretty much a fact that girls love flowers, so don’t forget the corsage! You know, those flowers that go on a girl’s wrist for prom? Yeah, those things. Ask your date what the color of her dress is and match the corsage to that. Don’t sweat flower shopping too much, a small one that coordinates should be sufficient.
5. Here comes the money
On average, prom night isn’t too cheap. Chivalry is still in existence (somewhat), so it’s traditional for the guy to pay for a few things. Dinner and tickets are typically covered by the guy. Tickets for this year’s occasion are $45, and dinner shouldn’t cost you much more. You don’t need to spend a ton of money on a fancy dinner; I’m sure your date will be happy you’re taking her somewhere. It’d be wise to ask her if she has any places in mind though. Unless you want to surprise her, which could be cute!
All in all, be prepared for prom, it’s not too far away! Start preparing now to avoid any last minute issues. Here’s to everyone going, having a perfect prom!
