My hopes were set high as I walked through the double-door entrance to the theater that would be screening the movie that had been the delightful fantasy consuming my mind for the past few weeks: Rio.
I figured my expectations were a little higher than they should’ve been, considering I was a sixteen-year-old that was attending a G-rated movie. Although it seems a bit nerdy, I was pleasantly surprised.
The movie with its adorable animation, catchy songs, and colorful characters had me hooked from the first minutes in. As I sat down in my chair in the very back row, like I always do, the first scene captivated me in a way that made me feel as if I were right up against the screen. Rio had me from the start.
The characters were played by plenty of well-known faces and names like Will.i.am, Jamie Foxx, Jesse Eisenberg, and Anne Hathaway. These familiar voices kept the story fresh and relevant to the audience. Not only were the voices well-picked, but the actual story was very motivational for kids. The main character, a bird that cannot fly, faces hardships and eventually has to conquer them.
The humor was mostly well suited for kids, excluding a few physical references that were witty enough to keep the parents, and myself, amused throughout the film.
I give Rio four stars out of five. My extremely high expectations were fulfilled beyond the boundary I had imagined. This movie is cute and enjoyable for all ages. I can promise you, if you like sweet, feel-good movies, this one is for you.
