Winter break: two whole weeks of lazy bliss, free of responsibilities, mind numbing assignments, and insane friend drama. A time to kick back and relax. Here are some ideas to help you escape break boredom.
- Grab your Snuggie, some friends, and a bucket of popcorn for a movie marathon. Pick a theme— think 80’s movies, classic Disney films, or gory slasher flicks. Now is a perfect time to snuggle up your favorite holiday movies. Another alternative would be to watch an entire movie series, like all of the Harry Potter movies. Even though the last thing you may want to do is use your brain during the vacation, it could be fun to brew some butterbeer and reread the books.
- Get active! Don’t spend your entire break buried in your couch cushions under a mountain of potato chip crumbs in front of the television. Take advantage of the warm Floridian climate, especially since the rest of the country is blanketed with snow and ice. Winter is the perfect time for bonfires with friends— and don’t forget the s’mores! Have a picnic at the beach, or spread out a blanket at night and stargaze.
- Get into the holiday spirit! Host an ugly sweater party and give out awards for the most creative, most hideous, and cutest sweater. Pile a bunch of friends into a car and do a drive-by Christmas light tour. Don’t forget the hot chocolate!
- Go on a shopping spree. Taking advantage of the post-holiday sales is the perfect way to spend the cash that your Great Aunt Millie just sent you for Hanukkah. Don’t just hit up the mall; look for fun vintage shops or thrift stores in the area (you’ll find unique pieces, so you won’t end up with the same sweater as three other girls in your math class.)
- Staying at home for the entire break? Plan your own road trip with a couple of friends. Check out one of Florida’s many theme parks. Go to a concert. Learn something new!
Have a wonderful break!
