Harry Potter returns–sort of

After the end of the eighth Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, many things have cropped up to keep fans every bit as interested in the series even years after the books and movies have been completed. These efforts have included Pottermore, an online interactive experience of the Harry Potter universe, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Orlando.

These efforts have been hugely successful, and most fans are every bit as enthusiastic about the series as they were the day the eighth and final movie was released. But, as it appears, now the Potter hype has calmed enough that it’s time to come out with the next big thing to keep fans entertained—yet another film!

While the movie will not feature Harry and his friends, or any of the characters we have come to know and love, it will take place in the Harry Potter universe and will undoubtedly be a topic of great interest to Harry Potter fans.

The movie will be based on the spin-off novel of the Harry Potter series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. This was a textbook Harry and his friends used while attending Hogwarts, written by the fictional Newt Scamander. The author of the textbook is the focus of the movie, taking place 70 years before Harry’s story takes place. The script is being written by J.K. Rowling herself, set in the 1920’s—in New York, of all places! The movie will contrast significantly from the original movie series, but what we love and are all too familiar with is still certain to be present: magic.

No release date has been announced as of yet, especially as the writing of the script is still in progress and casting has yet to begin. While it will be a long wait for the movie, the enthusiasm of dedicated Potter fans is evident and hopefully will pay off!
