The world of K-pop has been on the rise for the past year. With the help of social media, viewers and listeners all over the world have been introduced to the magic of K-pop.

K-pop, also known as Korean pop became popular through videos such as “YouTubers react to K-pop” by The Fine Bros. The now famous boy and girl groups were not only seen by the citizens of Korea, but also in countries such as the U.S., England, and Japan.

Boy groups such as EXO, BTS, BTOB, and GOT7 gained popularity throughout the world with their 4D charms and outstanding visuals. Girl groups are also a huge part in the K-pop world; Red Velvet, Girl’s Generation, 4Minute, and Mamamoo captured the hearts of many male fans.

A concept in K-pop groups are their albums and music broadcasts. Every time a group has brought out a new album, they appear on Korean broadcasts such as Mcountdown! And Inkigayo. As the show goes live, fans can vote on screen for their favorite groups to be number 1 on the Korean music charts.

Kcon, a convention just for K-pop fans, allows fans to gather together and see their favorite groups perform live. There are also areas to meet their idols and have their merchandise and albums signed. Kcon has taken place in Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Dubai. Kcon will also take place in New York this year in the summer.

The fans of K-pop are also hardcore when it comes to supporting their favorites. They may just have one specific group or follow many at a time. Though Korean is a difficult language to understand, many international fans may or may not know what they’re saying, however they are loyal and are willing to learn Korean just for the idols they love dearly.
