Over a span of 6 days, Hip-hop fans were blessed with the releases of Beyoncé’s Lemonade and Drake’s Views. The albums were released on April 23rd and April 29th, respectively. The two albums both debuted at number 1 on US sales charts. So naturally the internet erupted in comparisons of the albums.

Asking the question, Lemonade or Views?

“It’s tough but I’d have to say Lemonade” said senior Darry Bouie, “I feel like it’s a more diverse piece of work, it varies more. Because Views has a lot of songs on it, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but Lemonade is more of a complete piece.”

He’s not wrong. Views is a whopping 36 minutes longer than Lemonade. For good measure, Lemonade itself is only 45 minutes. Despite the length, the numbers seem to be in Drake’s favor.
In its first week Views has sold over 850,000 copies. Lemonade sold 171,000 copies less in its first week. That’s just actual sales, streams are even more impressive for Drake. Lemonade was streamed 150 million times over the first week, breaking the record for most streams for a female artist. But even so, Views still was steamed 249 million times, nearly 100 million more times as Lemonade.

So Views or Lemonade? Depends on the listener. If you’re looking for a concise and clear album with a story and a message, look for Lemonade. But if you just want to dance to some upbeat fun instrumentals with the occasional ballad, throw on some Views. Either way, when it comes to two of the best artist in music today both dropping albums, you can’t go wrong with either.
