In the midst of all the Taylor Swift hype, surrounding her Eras Tour, and her new
relationship with NFL player Travis Kelce, she has decided to release a movie. This isn’t just any movie, it isn’t even one filming a tour, which might sound like One Direction’s movie “This Is Us” from 2013. “Taylor Swift: the Eras Tour” documents the August 2023 show at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, is almost 3 hours long, and was released October 13, 2023.
Swift has never made anything like this, so it definitely had fans excited. “Initially I expected to just see a simple recording of the tour, but it was so much more than that. The editing and just the way it was filmed made it really fun and entertaining to watch.” says Evangelia Hackett (24′). “Also, seeing it opening weekend where everyone else was seeing it for the first time and was just as excited as me was really cool, it made me feel like I was actually at the concert.” Evangelia (24′) continues. A special part of Taylor Swift concerts, something that may set them apart from your generic show, is that she really puts on a whole production. She has multiple costume changes that during this tour have included multiple sparkly leotard-like outfits, each matching the vibe of the song or album she is singing. Her set changes, and there are always dramatic visual factors to engage the audience even more.
Over the years she has put out 10 albums, starting off as country albums in her youth, moving more into the pop and folk-inspired genres over the years. The Eras Tour in particular does not feature a new album but is a tour where she sings songs from all her past albums. She even includes different surprise songs in each show, meaning she pulls out a song that she doesn’t sing often, but knows fans will go crazy for. This specific tour really gives fans of all ages the full Taylor Swift experience.
The Eras Tour movie shows just that. It is as much a theatrical production as it is a concert, and fans are captivated by how the visuals and outfits change based on what album or “era” Swift is singing from. “I thought the movie was really good! It was just as entertaining as the concert, and I had a lot of fun being able to relive the concert through the movie.” says Evangelia (24′). The movie has already earned $160.5 million in the box office, definitely impressive. It has been no surprise a successful film just recording a certain concert was successful and loved by fans. If that could be expected by anyone, it would be Taylor Swift. Especially if you didn’t have a chance to buy a ticket for a concert while Swift was on tour, you can always see the movie! “The movie was a great way for fans who couldn’t go to the concert to still live out the concert with other fans and see the whole show in full.” says Evangelia (24′).
