Winter is finally about to arrive, so throw all your swim suits and flip flops back in the drawer and break out all those jackets and fuzzy boots from the back of the closet.
Not up to fate on your fall fashion? Don’t know what colors and styles are in and what are out? Well fear no more, your problem is about to be solved.
“I like wearing boots and sweaters in the winter. They just make the outfit look complete.” Says Sophomore Ashleigh King.
The fall colors for 2009 took on a more sophisticated, less traditional look and hues, like neutral and robust colors. This year though is all about being bright and colorful and making people notice. Try to incorporate midnight colors like purple, blues, turquoise, coral, and red; Vibrant colors that stand out.
According to Leatrice Eiseman executive director of the Pantone color institute ‘’ this fall’s offerings build on the springs season’s. More innovated and should take on more transporting and lively colors that conjure images of travel and adventure.’’
Wearing certain colors can reflect on your mood. For example- Purple, in the Chinese culture, is lucky and resembles wealth and prosperity. It is also the symbol of royalty. Purples mix of red and blue look good on nearly everybody, no matter what. You can mix it with black and Fuchsia for a bolder look.
Other fall colors for 2010 include red, the color of passion and power; Orange and yellow are more vibrant so you should find a shade that’s right for you.
There are also colors that are better for your skin tone. If your skin has a golden glow like Jennifer Aniston than bright, clear, and crisp colors such as pinks and blues are best. If you have a deeper, richer skin tone like Penelope Cruz, then dark colors like maroon, gold, and red are best suited for your skin type.
So…do you want the look for less? Well, here’s how to start- if you see a style you like, maybe in a magazine or an actress on T.V, but it’s way too expensive, you can always fine it somewhere else for less. Stores like Nordstrom and Niemen Marcus are great but can also be costly at times. You can almost always find those looks at stores like Forever21, Dillard’s, Wet Seal, and Charlotte Russe. You just have to shop around to find exactly what you like.
Now the rule of thumb is: If you don’t absolutely love it, leave it. For example, say you’re buying a jacket, you see one that’s big and doesn’t really fit properly, so that’s probably not the way to go. If you don’t fall in love with it in the store, you’re not going to like it at home. Now, according to Seventeen magazine a cropped jacket highlights your waist and makes you look good so you should go with that rather than the one that looks over sized. Now, what about shorts? Denim, non-holed shorts are great for fall, especially in Florida where we don’t have the hottest of winters. Frayed cutoffs can be cool, but with the pockets hanging out just look messy. SO overall, If you don’t think you like it then, you’re not going to like it later. It’s just a waste if it’s going to sit in your closet.
Jewelry defiantly makes a fashion statement. It makes your outfit and is almost guaranteed to get you complements. If you wear a big piece of jewelry like something with lots of jewels and color, pair it with a simple, less complex outfit. Wearing if with a dramatic-looking outfit is just overkill.
“I always try to look my best especially at school because I never know who I might see or need to impress. I always wear my favorite outfits and coordinate with at least one cute accessory. Usually a necklace.” Says Junior Emilie Becker.
There’s always that one person who has their own style. Maybe it doesn’t fit it, but it’s what they feel comfortable in. It’s okay to make your own fashion statement. Maybe you think it’s a little over the top but you never know, people may like it and follow it too. So wear what you feel comfortable in but get out there-dare to be different. You’ll never know unless you try.
