Enjoy the freedom around your necks while you can, PHUHS. And this is meant literally. A new school policy now requires all students to wear ID badges around their necks.
“Every student and staff member will be required to wear a school ID with his or her name and photo on it,” Mrs. Lynn Lemmon said. Lemmon is a CWMP English teacher who is on the Summer Institute, a mix of teachers, administrators, and staff members who help determine new school policies. “This ID will have to be worn above the waist so that the name is easily readable,” Lemmon said.
This policy is to help guarantee safety and well-being of all people associated with the school, but primarily students. It will keep unauthorized people from wandering around the campus, as well as helping faculty and staff to identify students that they don’t know.
PHUHS is not the first school to use this policy. It has been successfully instituted at a number of other schools throughout the country. Just last year, the rule was established at Clearwater Central Catholic High School. The students weren’t too happy about it. “In the beginning, it was annoying to have to wear our lanyards everywhere, but now I barely even notice it’s there. I’m so used to it,” Mallory Hansen, a junior at CCC said.
This safety concept has even extended far beyond the field of education. Many companies, hospitals, and other workplaces require their employees to wear ID badges.
