Thousands of people gathered outside a San Francisco courthouse anxiously awaiting the results of Proposition 8 trial. Some protesters chanted against Prop 8 while other protesters were waving pro gay flags in the air and holding up signs to show their support. “I am glad that it happened, rights should not be taken away and it should be a symbol of what you can achieve,” junior Sam Schyuler said. Prop 8 is a bill not allowing same sexes to marry, which many people say that it is taking your rights away.
Inside the court room Judge Vaughn Walker and the jury declared that Proposition 8 was deemed unconstitutional. Judge Walker concluded that “Prop 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples.” When protesters and activists discovered that Prop 8 was banned, loud clapping and cheering roared outside the courtroom.
A handful of controversy arose from Prop 8 being repealed. Many individuals are speculating that Vaughns sexuality is reason as to why he passed Prop 8 and he is indeed an openly gay male. Speculations are being made that Vaughn did this for himself rather than others. A lot of politicians are saying that Vaughn is not doing this for his own good but for the good of others.
This is just the beginning of change for America and now it is becoming a bigger concern nationwide.
