Fight, Fight, Fight! The chant heard throughout the court yard as yet another silly brawl over nothing breaks out. A few punches to the body or face and the crowd gathered around goes crazy. Administration swarms the scene like groupies to a rock band. Standing their ground and breaking up the fight as quick as possible. The on-lookers scatter in the midst of the moment to avoid getting in trouble. This pattern is a common occurrence.
Through the school year, PHUHS has seen its share of fights between both genders. The majority of which were seen over the past two weeks of school.
“I think fighting is a waste of time and energy because for the most part nothing gets resolved at the end of the fight,” Michael Zollo said.
It seems like the zero tolerance rule in the school system is no longer in effect. Students can now get away with bashing another kids skull into the ground several times, only receiving a simple slap on the wrist, and a cushy suspension. However if the number of days suspended goes over the amount of school days left, then students can face other consequences like expulsion.
“I think for repeating fighters that don’t stop after their first fight, should have more severe consequences such as a reassignment of schools. Although I do understand when kids sometimes let their anger and emotion get the best of them,” Zollo said.
