Did you happen to spot a mob of medical students wearing blue scrubs on Friday? Well, if you didn’t, you must have been under a rock all day because they were everywhere!
The juniors and seniors in the PHUHS Center of Wellness & Medical Professions (CWMP) showed off their medical pride by strutting their stuff in their scrubs. Scrub Day was on Friday October 12 this year. The CWMP students tried their best to exhibit their professional medical demeanors at school to practice for their upcoming clinicals beginning at the end of October.
It was hard to miss the sea of blue around the campus. The medical students wore periwinkle scrub tops and navy bottoms. It was like the sky blew up on PHUHS.
Scrub Day required a lot of preparation. The medical students were given a guideline check-list they had to follow to participate in Scrub Day including: having nails cut and clean (no fake nails), hair had to be pulled back, guys had to have a clean shaven face, and jewelry had to be kept to a minimum. Their medical attire consisted of blue scrubs, white wipeable shoes (just in case of coming in contact with blood or bodily fluids), and their CWMP patch had sewed on their left shoulder.
The CWMP upperclassmen look forward to Scrub Day every year. Tara Scharaldi, a junior in the medical program said, “I love wearing scrubs because they are so comfy and I believe it brings all of the juniors and seniors in the medical program together for a day.”
Scrub Day is a great way for the medical students to warm up for their clinicals. The CWMP students have the special opportunity of shadowing doctors, nurses, and workers in various medical professions to see what job options are out there and maybe make a decision on what career path they want to take.
Overall, Scrub Day is a way for the medical students to express and celebrate being in the CWMP program by wearing their scrubs and displaying their interests in the medical field.
