On Thursday, October 18, 2012 from four till seven-thirty in the afternoon families and communities will come together in after school programs all over the world to celebrate a day known very well as Lights on After School. This day is brought about to introduce kids and their guardians to a new way to occupy a child’s free time after school hours.
We’ve all heard the complaint, “I work, they have to be home alone,” although this complaint is far from correct. Lights on Afterschool helps display the alternatives to leaving your child home alone to roam about and do as they please.
“You take too many chances when you leave your kids at home alone, bring them somewhere where you will know they are safe” says Alicia, a proud after school care specialist. “Give us a chance and see what we are all about!”
The YMCA is a big contributor to this day as well as thousands of other after school child care programs. These three and a half jam packed hours will be filled with things that kids would do if they were to attend the program. You’ll make fun arts and crafts, color silly pictures, and even get one on one time with staff!
“Just come in and try it out,” says twenty year-old Shannon who happily spends her afternoons watching children at the YMCA. “It’s a great way to keep your kids busy and out of trouble.”
The majority of juvenile crimes and experimentation with drugs, alcohol, sexual activity, and cigarettes happen between three and six o’clock in the afternoon. After school programs create a safe place to send your precious ones to avoid the chance of any experimentation in your house.
