Talented students from all grades and programs come together after school to make music using only their mouths. We know how it sounds, but it’s more difficult to do than you’d think.
The After School Specials are a group of students who sing a cappella, meaning they don’t use soundtracks or instruments. And trust us when we tell you that they could take the Pitch Perfect cast any day.
In fact, they just won first place in the ICHSA (International Competition of High School A Capella) Southeast Semi-Finals, titling them as one of the top seven high school a cappella groups in the nation.
The group performed an array of songs from Hey Monday’s “I Don’t Want to Dance” to Muse’s “Undisclosed Desires”, mashing them together into an award winning set…literally. Senior Angel Coleman won an award for her arraignment of “Undisclosed Desires” and Miguel Corteo won best soloist for his solo in the mash up “Release the Stars/I’m a Star”.
Their achievements will be sending them to the National High School A Capella Competition in New York on April 19.
