Record low temperatures sweep the nation

Snow storms and freezing temperatures are raging in the northern states.

Recently the temperatures have reached record lows. On Jan.7 in Toledo, Ohio, the lowest temperature was -14 degrees. On the same day, it reached -16 degrees in Chicago, Illinois.

Many students have family members up north which can cause some worries for the family.

“My grandparents live up north. It’s really cold and snowing. It’s annoying to dig your way out everyday, but it’s nice to lay in bed all day,” said Connor Smith.

Others, like Smith and Divya Desai, used to live up north.

“I used to live up north. I moved here twelve years ago. I ditched all my heavy clothing,” Smith said.

Living up north, although the winters can be a struggle, have their benefits in other seasons.

“When I lived in New Jersey it got to below zero. I would rather live in New Jersey because I grew up there. They have perfect weather. It’s never too hot,” Desai said.

Some who live in Florida would rather move up north, but many are unaware of the conditions.

“My sister wants to move up north but my father says the weather is nice for the first couple of weeks, but then you can’t stand it,” Austin Nelson said.

If you’ve lived in Florida your whole life, make sure to shovel a few driveways before you move up north permanently.
