Music and color guard bring home victory

– After winning first place at the East Lake Classic, the band prepares for the biggest competition in Palm Harbor band history.

About sixteen marching bands from various schools were invited to play at the East Lake Classic last weekend. The Palm Harbor Marching Band won for best overall music; Color Guard bringing home first place for the best color guard category.

This year, the band program has performed their show titled “To Boldy Go” – a Star Trek themed performance featuring music from the soundtrack of the first Star Trek movie. Color guard takes on the role of dressing as aliens, while the band performs their routines dressed as the Star Fleet.

After winning third place in their division at the Tarpon Springs Outdoor Music festival, and now winning first place at East Lake,  the Palm Harbor band is reaching new heights than what has been accomplished in recent years.

Harder and more frequent practice after school this year has gone underway in preparation for the National Bands of America Competition, and in light of these new accomplishments it’s definitely showing results among band members and the quality of performances. The competition is being held on October 31 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The competition Friday will be the biggest in the Palm Harbor band’s history – having never competed at something of such a grand scale, they are truly and boldly going where none before them have gone before.
