Flint Michigan’s water supply was switched from Lake Huron to Flint River on April 25, 2014.There has been a devastating string of events that have come from unregulation and a need to save money.

The water that has been thought of to be safe to drink for sometime has been tested positive for coliform or E. coli. Not only has it been tested positive for E. coli, they have also found high levels of lead in Flint’s water supply. Which has been found in nearly 300 homes.

Rick Pluta a reporter and producer on Michigan Public Radio, said, “Flint was going to stop using water from the city of Detroit system, where it was buying it and it was considered too expensive, and start drawing water from the Flint River at least on an interim basis. And it turned out that the water was very corrosive, so corrosive in fact that General Motors had a car plant nearby and wouldn’t use it.”

On January 5, Rick Snyder Governor of Michigan has decided to call for a state of emergency, almost a year after finding out that there is high levels of lead in their water supply.

Rick Snyder released his emails on Wednesday regarding the Flint water crisis. One email revealed that the water was tested by the DEQ, and that it was up to standards to drink. Also in the email it stated that not only is it safe to consume but that is high quality for flint customers.

As you can tell from all the news from the last year, this is not true. Someone didn’t do their job the way they should have and it cost a new burden to the problematic city of Flint,Michigan.
