Most Controversial Face In America

I’m sure you have heard all the hype about the most hated pharmacist. CEO Martin Shkreli as he has raised the price of Daraprim from $13.50 to an astounding $750 a pill. He has a loud and unapologetic persona.

Shkreli has been arrested for security fraud. He is under investigation for losing investors money, for his newer pharmaceutical company Turing Pharmaceuticals.

This newer company he has been running for about a year, has been under a lot of criticism since the newer change for Daraprim. Daraprim is a medicine that treats people with lower immune systems, such as AIDS and cancer. It treats Toxoplasmosis, a disease that results from an infection spread from animals or insects.

His reasoning behind what some say, is price gouging, is that he needs to raise the price so he can have more research done to create a better Daraprim and wants to turn a profit for his company.

As admirable as it may seem from his point of view to help these people. What the truth may be is that Daraprim is a generic drug that does not need further research as suggested by a number of doctors, including Professor Dr. Gerard Anderson of John Hopkins University.

Martin Shkreli says he’s going to use this money for research and that his newer company needs the money to turn a profit. Yet he recently purchased a two million dollar unreleased album by the Wu Tang Clan, that he’s never gonna share with the rest of the world.

You can also see the struggle from his New York apartment on Vice’s interview, where he’s maneuvering on his hoverboard around his expensive amplifiers with a big bottle of wine on hand.

Your opinion truly falls on you at the end of the day, whether or not you think he deserves to be hated, or praised for his very controversial actions of the newer CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals.
