Women’s March on Washington

Right after history was made by having the Presidential Inauguration for Donald Trump,  another impactful event took place. Saturday, January 21st, 2017, the day after the Inauguration, people all over the nation decided to come to Washington D.C. to represent the women of the U.S. and have a formal protest.

What started off to be a Facebook post turned into a worldwide event. Women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and many impacted people decided to join this protest in almost every major city in the U.S. as well as cities in other countries.

Women want the new administration to know that their rights are human rights no matter what. Trump responded on the event through Twitter saying, “Peaceful protests are a hallmark of our democracy. Even if I don’t always agree, I recognize the rights of people to express their views.”

The message that the women are trying to convey is that their rights matter and that they have a voice. During the campaign, a very vulgar audio recording came out with Donald Trump saying very sexist remarks. After the world heard this, many women were afraid that their rights would be violated with Donald Trump as President.

The response made many people agree that the women got their point across and Trump responded to it wisely. When it is all said and done, the women saw an opportunity to let the U.S. and the world know that women have a powerful voice and that they’re worried about the new Trump administration.
