Most people think of twitter as a social media where they are free to speak their mind, but Twitter no longer values free speech, and Twitter employees have admitted to shadowbanning accounts that post their conservative opinions. Twitter is now working to prevent people from talking about pro-Trump or conservative ideas according to a group of former and current employees.

A video was taken where several Twitter employees talked about the Twitter shadowbanning not knowing that there was a hidden camera recording everything they said. The organization that put out this video is called Project Veritas and run by the political activist and author, James O’Keefe. The non-profit organization works to reveal media lies and political scandals.

“One strategy is to shadowban so you have ultimate control. The idea of a shadowban is that you ban someone, but they don’t know they’ve been banned, because they keep posting and no one sees their content. So they just think that no one is engaging with their content, when in reality, no one is seeing it. You just sort of turn off all the features for them. They still see everything, it’s all there. You can like it, favorite it, or you can like retweet, or whatever. But at the end of the day, no one else interacts. No one else sees what you’re doing,” was stated in the video by Abhinov Vadrevu, a former Twitter software engineer.

When asked about how twitter employees know if an account is a bot that should be shadowbanned in the video, a direct messaging engineer for Twitter, Pranay Singh said, “You use machine learning. You look for Trump, or America, or any of, like, five thousand, like, keywords to describe a redneck.”

Ultimately, comments that the Twitter employees disagree with or find “offensive” can be removed from everyone else’s feed except the user that uploaded the comment, and Twitter users are no longer allowed to say whatever they’d like on the platform.
