Fight 4 Life with HOSA competitors

Four HOSA students form a suicide awareness group.

HOSA competitors, formally known as Fight 4 Life (Devyn Bulger (’20), Maddy Whelan (’20), Megan Lichter (’20) and Abi Toenjes (’20)), are spreading depression and suicide awareness throughout not only the school, but also the community. During the process of their project they made many efforts to educate others about the importance of mental health and suicide.

The group arranged a booth at lunch to meet with the school psychologist and to educate students. In addition, the students handed out “you matter” stickers around school to emphasize their goal of including others to prevent and raise awareness regarding suicide. They also utilized Twitter to spread positivity and the dangers of suicide among Palm Harbor University High School students. Follow their account @phu_positivity for more information.

“Mental health and suicide are not something that should be taken lightly. Due to the immense stress levels that high school students face, we believe that awareness of the signs and symptoms should be talked about during the school day,” Toenjes said.  The acts Fight 4 Life have made are extending awareness throughout the school and community. Keep up with their initiative and spread positivity.
