I’ll admit it; I’m a bit of a bookworm. There is nothing that I enjoy more than spending my afternoon in a bookstore, scavenging through the shelves. Take one look in my bedroom and you’re sure to see numerous overflowing bookcases, organized by genre, broken down into alphabetical order, and then color coded. I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say I’m a little book crazy.
While few of my friends are just as obsessed as I am, I’ve found that most teenagers these days don’t like reading. Maybe they’d rather watch a movie or maybe they’re just too ashamed to admit it! Gone are the days of downplaying my love for reading or hiding my books in class, I’ve come to realize that it’s okay to read.
Not only is reading a book a good way to be imaginative and creative, the saying is true, the more you read the better you read. While sitting in English class or even when I took the SAT, I recognized a lot of the vocabulary words from my books. Reading is also a pathway to improving your writing skills and performance in school.
If you are a book lover, like me, there are plenty of places in Palm Harbor to find cheap books. Books-A-Million has a rather large clearance section with recent teen novels, mostly priced below $3 and the clothing store, Plato’s Closet, has a basket of used paperback books for $2.
Many of teenager’s favorite shows such as Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, and The Vampire Diaries are books as well! If you enjoy any of these shows, I highly recommend reading the books. You might be surprised!
So Palm Harbor, I’m not telling you to drop everything and run to your nearest book store. I’m just saying give reading a chance!
