On May 1, 2011, President Obama announced at 11:35 pm that “the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden.” Could it possibly be true? Osama bin Laden gone for good?
Americans rushed the streets and chanted “USA” throughout the cities, but all I have to ask is, “What took so long?” The 9/11 disaster happened nearly 10 years ago, and according to Obama, he had been briefed this past August on a lead to Osama. It has been 8 months since. But let’s recap what has been happening in the meantime…
Libya has been under turmoil these past few months which has sent “U.S. gas prices up 33 cents in two weeks,” according to CNN reporter Mariano Castillo on March 6. It has always been known that Libya “possesses considerable reserves of oil and gas,” said Castillo. Unfortunately, due to the protests and attacks on leader Col. Muahammar el Qaddafi, gasoline dependant countries have been feeling it everywhere.
Not to mention President Obama’s approval ratings have never been particularly high. To this day, Rasmussen Reports indicate that he has a 50% disapproval rating. As his term is coming to a close and citizens have not seen a significant amount of progress for our nation, Americans have become frustrated.
So, with gas prices on the rise and approval rates at stake, could there have been a better time for an assassination of the Most Wanted terrorist in the world? On Monday May 2, 2011, it was reported that “oil prices fell 2% in early trading”, so gas prices are already beginning to drop.
So how do we know that Osama bin Laden couldn’t have been “brought to justice” earlier? We don’t. But all we know is the United States economy is awfully low, the gas prices are shockingly high, and the president rates are terribly low. And after the killing, the gas prices are already expected to decrease and Obama’s ratings are suspected to increase. Is this all just a coincidence, or is it all-too perfect timing?
