Seniors-we’re the ‘’leaders” of the school. Supposed “role models” who younger students envy. With graduation right around the corner, we will be going from the top of our class, to the very bottom in college. Adulthood is getting closer every day, so it’s time for the class of 2012 to meet the real world.
Planning your future can be scary. Where are you going to school? Are you going to work? Where are you going to live? How will you afford things? So many questions, yet there are limited answers. These questions race through our minds, and we have no idea how to even respond.
College is generally where most kids will go after graduation. Many think that it will be just like high school, but the fact of the matter is that it’s a lot harder. Studying endlessly, plethora’s of notes, exams, and basically living in a library is a good idea of what college is like. High school sounds like a joke compared to that. While our school does a lot to prepare us for higher education, it is still a little frightening, but certainly exciting.
Mom and dad are our main supporters. From day one, they have taken care of us and ensured our every need/want has been met. But for those of us leaving the comfort of our homes, we need to realize that they won’t be there for us as much anymore. No more being nagged to do your homework or be given the occasional gas money; it’s time for us to start acting like adults now more than ever.
A lot of high schoolers work, but let’s be real-those few hours a week working part time aren’t going to cut it anymore. Most students have to be able to afford their own things, like food, clothing, and activities. The thought of having to completely fend for ourselves is a little unsettling. I mean, in between classes, exams, studying, working, maybe having a social life, will there even be time to breathe? Take a breath now and calmly contemplate your future plans to avoid anxiety in the future.
I’m a little scared to move on into the real world. Numerous seniors are too, but we knew this day would come eventually. Let’s make the most of the rest of our senior year, and make college the best it can be!
