New Year’s resolutions: effort to accomplish goals

It seems like every year Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites are buzzing with ideas for New Year’s resolutions, but how many people actually complete their resolutions?

Personally, I think the idea of trying to start the New Year out differently and somehow better is a great thing to do; however, it seems ridiculous to make a statement about what you want to improve upon if you never accomplish it.

Only about eight percent of the United States population completes their New Year’s resolutions out of those who make them. This is an insanely low number of people. There is no point in trying to change if you don’t put in the effort to accomplish your goal.

Also I don’t think that resolutions should only come at the end of the year. People should be motivated to change throughout the year and make goals that are possible, not becoming an Olympic athlete in one year.

Simple goals are better for New Year’s resolutions so that they are actually realistic. For example, staying healthy or spending more time with family. Both of these things are easily accomplished, but can improve someone’s life and way of living.

Some people are better than others at completing their New Year’s resolutions. Kudos to those who stick to what they set out to accomplish by the end of the next year.

So if you’re planning on making a New Year’s resolution this year, I recommend making it reasonable and something you actually desire to achieve.
