Christmas music is one thing to look forward to when December rolls around, but some radio stations are banning one specific song.

“Baby it’s Cold Outside” is a popular song throughout the Christmas holiday, but some of its lyrics are found to be very controversial. Some are taking the reference that he (the main person singing the song) is trying to drug her (the female singer) and make her stay the night.

But is this really what the original writer intended on? The song has been around since 1944, and was featured in the 1949 film “Neptune’s Daughter.”

Being such an old song, you would think there would have been something done about the suggestive lyrics a long time ago. It’s just a song about a cold winter night, not everything is meant to be sexist, yet so much is taken that way.

Even though radio stations across the country have banned the song, it is still on the trending list on apple music. This shows that the ban makes no sense since people are still searching for and listening to that song.

1944 was a different age, nothing offended people, and nothing was taken in a sense that it shouldn’t have been. Then, it was considered wrong for a woman to show that she was interested in a man, which is why she’s acting like she can’t, but she never says she doesn’t want to stay.

“I think it’s really stupid with what they’re doing, because it’s a classic Christmas song,” Cameron Burroughs (‘19) said.

Banning a song is a step too far, mainly because it’s just a song. Grow up and stop trying to ruin the things others enjoy. Christmas time is something to look forward to every year, but since things are taken in a way they aren’t meant to be, they aren’t able to be enjoyed.
