PALM HARBOR, Fla. -Let’s face it. AirPods are expensive. Not everyone wants to shell out hundreds for expensive audio gear. If you want a budget headset and don’t mind the wires, the Razer Blackshark V2 is a great choice for 80 dollars.
The Razer Blackshark V2 is a relatively inexpensive headset that features a detachable microphone that
has great quality and noise isolation. It isolates the sounds of you talking and ignores the fan in the
background or your loud chewing. Therefore, it’s useful for people that may have loud noises in their
home they don’t want to announce to everyone else but don’t want to buy an expensive microphone.
As for the audio quality, I’ve found over a few weeks of usage that it gets good highs and mids but
doesn’t have very deep bass. The headset also doesn’t block much sound, which I think is good because you can hear what others are saying to you. However, if noise cancellation is something you want, this headset probably won’t be for you.

The headset is made with light materials, coming in at roughly 280 grams. Not the lightest headset, but it’s still on the lighter side. The inside’s padded with cloth and fairly comfortable memory foam, so it stays relatively cool and breathable, unlike the leathery ones used in the school’s computer labs that make it feel like God had created a second hell in your ears. You can buy it at Amazon for a usually discounted price of 80 dollars, but it may sometimes drop even lower than that. You can also buy it straight from the Razer store, but it’s rarely discounted there.
The main downside of this headset is that it requires a headphone jack or USB-A port (it comes with a sound card that doubles as a converter from USB-A to 3.5), which may not be available on most phones and tablets. However, if you’re using a larger laptop, then you may be able to use it. If you’re using a desktop at home, then there should always be some kind of port you can use the headset on. In addition to the good hardware, you can also install various bits of software such as Razer Synapse and 7.1 Spatial audio to customize your listening experience, such as customizing where the sound appears to be coming from. Note that the software is not available on Mac (which I use), but from my experience, it doesn’t seem to be much of a problem. One small issue is that you can’t fold up the headset for easy storage, so you probably shouldn’t shove this into a backpack and expect it to survive. Needless to say, I don’t think this was designed with travel in mind.
Overall, it’s a great budget headset for people who don’t mind going wired.
