Stuck inside wanting to do something fun, but can’t think of anything? Try these four fun experiments you can do with the items found in your house.

The first thing is called shaving cream rain clouds. All you need is a clear jar or cup, shaving cream, food coloring, and water. First, fill the glass with water then add a layer of shaving cream. Lastly add a few drops of coloring to the shaving cream. When the drops become too heavy they will fall through and give the effect of rain.

The next thing is a walking rainbow. For this you’ll need six small clear jars or cups, paper towels, food coloring, and water. The first thing you will need to do is to fill the jars three-quarters full with water and color each jar a different color. Next, place the jars in a circle. Then fold the five paper towels into strips and place each end of the paper towels into the jars connecting them. Then sit and wait as the color fades from one jar to the next.

The science of yeast is another thing you can experiment with by using it to blow up balloons. This experiment requires a packet of yeast, a clean plastic bottle, one teaspoon of sugar, warm water, and a small balloon. First, fill the bottle with one inch of warm water. Then add the yeast packet and gently swirl the bottle for three-to-five seconds. Add the sugar and swirl the bottle again. Next slightly inflate the balloon a few times to stretch it then place it over the neck of the bottle. Lastly, let the bottle sit in a warm place for about 20 minutes. Watch as the balloon begins to inflate.

Oobleck is always a fun experiment to try, it’s a liquid that solidifies with force. You’ll need one cup of water, one and a half cups of cornstarch, and food coloring. All you have to do is mix the water and cornstarch then add the coloring. Once that’s complete go ahead and play with your newly created Oobleck.

These experiments will be messy, but they are fun to watch and play around with. Using these fun experiments, come up with your own scientific activity to show to all your friends.
